Dragon Quad Racing (DQR) operates under its own club regulations alongside the official rules and regulations of NORA Motorsport, ensuring every event is run to recognised national standards.
Our championship is committed to providing safe, fair, and competitive racing for riders of all ages and abilities. All competitors, officials, marshals, and spectators are expected to follow these regulations throughout every event.

🪖 Safety Requirements
All riders must pass technical inspection before racing:
• Kill switch (lanyard attached at all times)
• Full-face helmet (no damage)
• Boots, gloves, and goggles required
• Roll-off goggles only (tear-offs not allowed)
• Body armour + neck brace (mandatory for youth/mini, recommended for adults)
• Front and rear number plates must be visible
❗ If safety rules are not met, you will not race.

Key points:
• Minimum age limits apply (Mini 5+, Youth 8+, Adults 15+ depending on class)
• Under 17s are restricted to 450cc maximum (NORA rule)
• Riders progress through classes based on experience
⏱️ Timing System
All events use electronic transponder timing:
• Every lap is recorded automatically (MYLAPS system)
• Live timing available via the MYLAPS app
• Download the app on your phone prior to the event to keep an eye on live timings
Transponder Information:
• Riders may use their own transponder (must be registered)
• Hire available at events:
o £20 per day hire. £40 refundable deposit (returned after event)
Start Timing Rules:
• Mass Start Races
• Timing starts when:
• All quads line up in class order starting with expert +, expert, 4x4 expert, 4x4 clubman, clubman, 4x4lights, sportsman. There are markers on the start grid, so you know where to line up.
• The Union flag drops and each class is started with a 15 second interval between classes.
To be classified:
• Complete at least 50% of leader’s laps
• Complete at least one full lap (you will receive bonus points)
• Finish within 30 minutes of chequered flag, after this will result in DNF
🏁 Finish Line Rule:
• Riders are allowed to push their quad over the finish line if required
• Towing a quad over the finish line will result in a DNF
🏎️Sprint Races (Selected Events)
• Short format (10–15 mins)
• Time trial / interval starts
• Multiple races combined for results
• Full laps must be completed (no towing over finish)
• After each race, riders are parked in the pits and put into order starting with the fastest lap (not class).
• Riders must complete the final lap and can only miss 2 consecutive races. If they miss a lap they will be given the slowest riders time in their class.
• The timings of multiple sprints are then combined for an overall result.
🚑 Medical cover
At all our events, a professional team of paramedics is present throughout race days to provide immediate medical support and emergency response coverage for riders, officials, and spectators.
🏁 Race Format
DQR runs cross-country (XC) endurance racing:
• Mini Quads: ~30 minutes
• Youth: ~1.5 hours
• Adults: ~2.5 hours
Races are mass start and grouped by class.
Start Timing Rules
• Mass Start Races
• Timing starts when:
• All quads line up in class order,
• Expert + → Expert → 4x4 expert → Clubman → 4x4 lights → sportsman (there are markers on the start grid, so you know where to line up).
• Adults and Youths will be instructed to Warm engines then switch off engines,
• Youth hybrid → 250 →125
• Mini 100 → 90 → 50 (start race with engine running)
• The Union flag drops and each class is started with a 15 second interval between classes.
Importance of the Riders’ Briefing & Sighting Lap
The riders’ briefing and sighting lap are essential parts of every race day and play a major role in rider safety.
Riders’ Briefing
The riders’ briefing ensures that all competitors, marshals, and officials are aware of:
• Track conditions and any changes to the circuit
• Safety procedures and flag signals
• Race formats and event timings
• Hazard areas and marshal points
• Pit rules and paddock safety
• Emergency procedures and medical support locations
Attendance at the riders’ briefing is mandatory for all riders and marshals. This is completed by the clerk of the course immediately before the sighting lap begins
Sighting Lap
The sighting lap gives riders and marshals the opportunity to:
• Familiarise themselves with the track layout
• Identify jumps, ruts, cambers, and changing ground conditions
• Locate marshal posts and safety zones
• Check visibility and racing lines before competition begins
• Ensure the track is safe and ready for racing
Completing the sighting lap is Mandatory, helps reduce accidents and allows everyone to prepare safely for the day’s racing.
⚠️ General Conduct
• Ride safely and responsibly at all times
• Follow marshals and flag signals
• Stay on marked course
• No dangerous riding or contact
• Must follow designated pit lane speed rules 5mph
🏎️ Overtaking
• Allowed anywhere it’s safe
• Extra emphasis on:
• Clean passes
• No blocking or dangerous riding
🏁 Pit & Refuelling Rules
• All quads must be parked up in the pits with engines switched off during re-fuelling
• If a quad is removed from the pits and taken back to the campsite this will be an instant DNF.
• Multiple quads are also not permitted to be used for 1 rider.
• No children in pits at any time
• Strictly no drinking alcohol or smoking or vaping in pits
• 5MPH speed restriction
❗ Breaking rules may result in penalties or disqualification
🪪 Mini & Youth Riders
• Must hold a NORA youth or day licence
• Parent/guardian must sign on at events
• Additional safety checks may apply
🚩Penalties
• Jump start → time penalty
• Cutting track → penalty or lap removal
• Missing transponder → no result
• Ignoring flags → penalty or disqualification
• Pit speeding (5mph limit) → penalty
🧾 Results & Protests
• Provisional results posted after racing
• Riders have 30 minutes to report timing issues
• After 30 minutes, results become final.
👷♂️Marshal Information
We are always keen to welcome marshals to help keep our tracks safe.
All marshals must:
• Inform the DQR team before undertaking marshal duties
• Be over 16 years of age
• Sign on before the event starts
• Wear a high-visibility vest at all times
• Wear a helmet at all times while trackside
• Attend the riders’ briefing
• Complete the sighting lap before racing begins
